Our Recommended Dog Supplies

Below is a list of the things I really like and have used with my personal dogs and many clients. All the products below can easily be found on Amazon or a local pet supply store. We hope you like our recommendations.

E Basics Dog Treat Pouch

This pouch is easy to use and clean. It is readily available on Amazon and is priced right! Go ahead and dump those treats right in there and then wash it in your dishwasher. Plastic baggies slow you down!

Becrowm Dog Cooling Mat

This mat is inexpensive and versatile. It’s cheap enough to buy a few and they come in different sizes to match your dog. They are non-slip, washable and go with any décor. Do not place these in the crate, but use them around the house for behavior management.

6-foot leash

I am not really aren’t particular about my 6-foot leashes. Any 6-foot leash will work. I like a lightly padded handle and a reflective strip is great for added safety. Remember that the handle should fit YOUR hand and the metal clasp should be the appropriate size for your dog.

15-20-foot leash by Petsafe

I really like my long leash to be cotton. Although they do get dirty and will eventually wear out, they are not as slippery in the hand as nylon. I am not loyal to this brand, it’s just one that I purchase the most often. If the wet and dirt bother you, consider a Biothane Leash.

 Ultra Oil

Drizzle some right on your dog’s food. Very healthy! We use this as a preventative and a treatment for dry skin, brittle fur, allergies, pain and more.

Dry/Kibble Dog Food

Fromm is what I have always fed my dogs. There are several lines (puppy, adult, senior, etc.) available, and we suggest you rotate the protein types. It is an American company that has good integrity and a great product. For a do with food allergies, look at Canine Caviar.

Mr. Pen Dog Seat Belt

The safest way to transport your dog is with a Gunner Kennel. These are very expensive, and most people won’t buy them. If you need to restrain your dog in the car, I like the simple and inexpensive seatbelt that connects to the dog and plugs into the seatbelt. It’s small and easy to use. For me, it’s not just about travelling with safety, but that anyone can get my dog OUT of the car quickly too. These are sold in pairs so you can keep one in each car.

Freedom Harness

This is my go-to harness. The quality is great; it fits every dog and is priced right. I do NOT purchase the leash from the company. They are too slippery for my taste. This company is amazing at sizing! Go directly to the website and plug in your dog’s information and you will get the right size. www.2houndsdesign.com.

Collars

A good option is to buy a flat, buckle collar and have your dog’s name and your phone number embroidered on it. This eliminates the annoying jingling of nametags and allows a person to take a picture of the number is your dog gets loose and they can’t “catch” her. Another option is a martingale collar. These are best for small headed dogs that can slip out of a collar and offer a little more control while on leash. For tough puppies or sensitive dogs that pull, you can try a Starmark Training Collar. A Prong Collar offers the greatest control and fastest training. In ONLY recommend a Herm Sprenger Collar. All dogs do well in a 2.25 gauge and a quick release for ease. Always use a safety clip with a Starmark and a Prong because the links can come unlinked. If your dog is very small, go with a micro prong by Herm Sprenger.

Freeze Dried Beef Liver

For a dry treat, it’s all about taste and simplicity. This has one ingredient. If your dog has allergies, you can choose the protein that your dog can eat. If your dog doesn’t like it, pick another one. These come in beef, chicken, fish, venison, and more. They are high quality, nutrient dense and healthy. Dogs love them.

Favorite Treat for Training

When I arrive at a house to work, I come with a loaded pouch containing turkey breast from Costco. Lots of dogs are intolerant to chicken, so I use Turkey. I rarely have any dog have issues with turkey meat. I buy the entire breast at Costco – for price and ease- dice it up myself, place ½ cup portions in sandwich bags and freeze them. You can add with kibble if you like. Healthy, simple and dogs love it! Another alternative is a healthy hot dog - I choose organic, grass fed with no nitrates or preservatives. These are sold at any grocery store.

Nupro Supplement

Choose the best formula for your dog. I always give a vitamin and pre and probiotics to our dogs to fill in what kibble leaves out. We also add fresh food sometimes too – meats, eggs, oils, fruits and veggies. Anything that is good for you, is generally good for your dog. Do a quick search and you will find little infographics that list foods to avoid.

Toys

Kong, Tail Teaser, Tug toys, Jolly Ball, Chuck it.

Chews

Bully Stick - buy American made only. Himalayan Yak Chew for tough chewers - best buy is at Trader Joes. Real marrow bones - available in the freezer section of Publix. Bargain Bag by Red Barn - great deal for an entire bag of quality chews. No Hides. Best to purchase at local pet stores like Jakes or Red Barn or find a deal at Homegoods.
